I think 16 is a good starting age, but 30? Isn't that a little too old to be a pageant queen? Of course, you can enter ( if there wasn't a restriction) and I have nothing against that, but the chance of winning will be much smaller.

I know who you're talking about. I was there to witness her participation in the Miss Asian International in San Francisco last year. She also won the Miss Merced County Pageant this year and was planning on competing in Miss California. How ironic her life turns out. Such a bright future ahead of her, and then........but I still have high hopes for her.

Well, some of the Hmoober girls in here are in their mid 20's and they look beautifully stunning. So, who knows how many Hmong girls out there in their late 20's are still as beautiful. PLUS, they will be much more clever in answering any given questions too.

that's exactly why our age limit is 16-23. it covers both the teens and adults. and the final decision is from the judges. they'll decide who is better suited to represent the hmong communities. we're just not looking for beauty and what they can or can't do (same for every pageant i've seen and witnessed); it's about representing their whole self....this includes beauty, personalities, skills, potentials, goals, etc.....just to name a few.

i agree with you totally on the beauty part but refer to my post above for an explanation. also, there has to be limits/restrictions or there will be chaos. this applies to almost everything in this country here.

I totally get you. Then perhaps a new RESTRICTION needed to be added:
Applicant selection limit: XXX numbers.
How's that huh? Then every applications should come in with a headshot photo of the contestant and a personal interview can be conducted to select out only the most qualified contestants. Perhaps this is already been done, but I didn't see the limit as to how many can enter and be accepted. Surely, you wouldn't want to select everyone...then yeah, that would be chaos.

Every year at the pageant, they are always in high school or college. I wonder if they take drop outs or high school graduates who hasn't gone beyond to college that is single and not married with children??.

You made a good suggestion. However, that idea is already within our bylaws. For the pageant to continue, our minimum number of contestants is 6 while our maximum is 12. If we do receive more than 12 applications/registrations, a screening process will occur to determine who will fill the 12 spots.

so it seems that you know a bit bout these Hmong pageants, after a chick has won, what does she do to impact the community or make it better? does she donate her winnings to help Hmong children because i believe we must help our selves first starting with Hmong then white then red then green and maybe black...haha j.k but i know that you know what i mean, anyway yea.

I'm sure every pageant committee has their own duties or quidelines for their paqeant winners, such as be a role model for the old and young, represent the Hmong communities, or participate in various Hmong events/gatherings, etc....
However, ther real question you should ask is...is she willing to be that person. As a committee, you can only enforce those duties to a certain limit. The rest is up to her.

Yes, $5 gets you in on Saturday for the whole day plus the evening entertainment. The band that will be playing most of the time that night will be Miracles from Milwaukee. We'll also have Mai Neng Thao and possibly several other singers.
